Bön takes "sang" as an auspicious rite of the most ancient root—ancestors offered juniper smoke to the sky and raised the wind-horse for success; later Tonpa Shenrab wove it into the teaching as the perfect means to increase merit, remove obstacles, and widen good connection. A sang cloud rises and the wind-horse lifts with it, symbolizing the unfolding of fortune and good connection.

Bön's sang blessing rests on the view of "purifying the three actions": smoke is not truly existent; giver, receiver, and gift are empty of inherent nature, yet blessing excludes no one. The priest intones the deity mantra, seeing the cloud transform into measureless auspicious nectar—upward to the founder and Three Roots, downward to all beings, and widening good through the wind-horse connection.

• **Increases merit.** Sang gifts upward to the founder and Three Roots, growing one's field of merit and fortune naturally.
• **Removes obstacles.** For the living it transforms adversity and不顺, steadying daily life.
• **Widens good connection.** Through the wind-horse connection, it binds widely with good friends, good circumstances, and good Dharma.

The sang blessing proceeds thus:

• **Prepare and burn.** The priest lawfully compounds juniper, herbs, and pure water, burning them into a cloud on a clean height and raising the wind-horse.
• **Mantra and visualization.** Intoning the deity mantra and sang mantra, he sees the cloud become measureless auspicious nectar.
• **Threefold dedication.** Upward to the founder and Three Roots, downward to the six realms, widening good through the wind-horse connection.
• **Peaceful completion.** A complete dedication lets the dedicatee's merit increase, obstacles clear, and good connection widen.

You need not be present—only join that one thought of blessing in your heart; the sang and wind-horse carry your vow to the ten directions.
