Product description

🪷缘起

The liberation rite is rooted in the Earth Store Sūtra (地藏菩薩本願經·利益存亡品): "Of seven parts, one is gained by the deceased; the other six benefit the living." The Ullambana Sūtra tells of Maudgalyāyana saving his mother, and the Buddha instituting the Ullambana offering on the fifteenth of the seventh month to rescue beings from dire suffering. Buddhism's aim is universal compassion—guiding the departed from suffering toward the good.

☸️功德利益

Offering a liberation rite aims to help the deceased abandon fear and turn toward a wholesome path; the living dedicate the merit, nurturing compassion and filial remembrance. It is not a transaction for otherworldly favour, but a bridge of Dharma that settles both the departed and the living.

🕯️仪轨

Following Han-Chinese monastic custom: set a spirit tablet, recite Buddhas' and Bodhisattvas' names, chant the Earth Store Sūtra or Amitābha Sūtra, dedicate the merit, and offer provisions for the hungry ghosts. A preceptor may preside; one may also recite and dedicate at home with reverence—sincerity matters more than spectacle.

💬答疑

Q: Does liberation "buy" freedom for the dead? A: No. The Dharma teaches dependent origination; the rite is a wholesome supporting condition. Whether the deceased benefits depends on their karma and faith. The living's filial conduct and good deeds are the real, immediate benefit.
