Liberation Rite · Infant Spirit Peace
🪷缘起
The sorrow of lost infants is met by Buddhism with compassionate rescue. The Earth Store Sūtra vows: "Until all beings are saved I will not attain awakening; until hell is empty I will not become a Buddha"—showing not one spirit is abandoned. Han temples often set infant spirit tablets and dedicate sūtra chanting so the unborn find comfort and turn toward the good.
☸️功德利益
Establishing a peace rite aims to bathe the young spirit in Dharma light, helping it leave fear and plant wholesome roots; parents meanwhile repent and settle their hearts, dissolving long-held guilt. It is not buying off karma with money, but transforming the knot through sincere repentance and dedication.
🕯️仪轨
Rite: set a peace tablet, recite Guanyin's and Earth Store's names, chant a chapter of the Earth Store Sūtra or the Universal Gate, and dedicate with the rebirth mantra. A preceptor may preside at a temple, or one may chant at home with a pure mind—repentance and blessing matter more than grandeur.
💬答疑
Q: Does the rite "liberate" the child? A: The Dharma teaches dependent origination; the rite is a wholesome condition and blessing, not a substitute for the child's own karma. What parents can do is sincere repentance and lifelong good deeds dedicated to the child—settling both.
