Setting memorial tablets before the Buddha is ancient practice. A tablet is not an idol but a "focus"—placing drifting remembrance before the Three Jewels so every dedication has a direction. The Sakya school views the tablet through the Lamdré insight: the name points to a consciousness still in saṃsāra, and the lama, by the yidam Hevajra's blessing, establishes a pure refuge for it.

Many families, kept by distance or busyness, never set a tablet for a loved one. Online tablet-setting ensures that intention is not blocked—you provide only a name and a date; the lama, before the mandala, completes the lawful placing.

• **Dedication with support.** The tablet gives merit a direction—not scattered, not in vain.
• **Refuge for the consciousness.** A pure focus for the dead steadies the bardo consciousness, keeping it from drifting with karma.
• **Peace for the living.** A place to lodge remembrance gives grief somewhere to rest.

Tablet-setting proceeds thus:

• **Provide information.** You give the deceased's name and birth (or lunar memorial) date, and the one blessing you wish to say.
• **Lawful establishment.** Before the mandala the lama writes and places the liberation tablet per the Lamdré ritual, consecrated with the Hevajra heart mantra.
• **Continuous dedication.** At every ceremony, every seventh day, every memorial, dedication uses this tablet as focus.
• **Peaceful settling.** At the forty-ninth day or when the vow is fulfilled, a peaceful dedication wishes the dead a pure refuge.

You need not be present—only hold that person in mind; the tablet keeps your remembrance placed.
