Guardian Buddha · Thousand-Armed Avalokiteśvara (Rat)

🪷缘起

The Thousand-Armed Avalokiteśvara is taught in the Mahākaruṇika Dhāraṇī Sūtra (大悲咒经): the Bodhisattva of Compassion, to liberate all beings, manifested a thousand arms and a thousand eyes—each hand holding a different implement answering a vow, each eye seeing a different suffering. Mount Putuo is the Chinese sacred mountain of Guanyin.

🔮寓意

In Chinese tradition the Rat is guarded by Thousand-Armed Avalokiteśvara. The thousand hands signify all-encompassing protection; the thousand eyes, awakening to every being's need. Wearing the image recalls compassion over craving, steadying the mind through restless years.

📿形制

Cast in alloy, copper, silver or wood: a serene central face with radiating arms, each hand holding a buddha, lotus, vase or mala.
